How do i find out some basic information on my birth parents?

Well, heres my situation..

I wouldn't MIND meeting them, but i don't necessarily want to. All i want are names, ethnic, and education status, etc.

I'm 16, and have been told its illegal for me to even attempt to find out that information, is this true?

I believe i have a right to know what nationality i am, any answers will help! How do i find out some basic information on my birth parents?
Every state has different rules but most you can't do anything till your 18. If you have a closed adoption finding any information may be difficult.

Again depending on the agency and or state you may get non identifying info like age they were when you were adopted and may be ethinicity.

To find that out you may have to look. once you get the non identifying infor there are sites dedicated to searching you ask questions on the adoption board on here.

Just because you look and find them does not mean you have to have a realtionship with them you can get your questions answered and then just have a email or no realtionship with them.

They may not want one with you but most birth parents especially birth mothers would welcome you finding them Giving a child up is very difficult and she more than likely thought she was doing the best thing for youHow do i find out some basic information on my birth parents?
you go through the adoption agency that was used when you are 18, as of right now you cant find out anything because you are underage, when you are 18 your legally an adult and therefor can make your own decisions, legally those records are sealed until you turn of legal age, and even then you might not be able to find out to much Information on them depending if your birth parents want that information to be available to you, they might not want you to contact them. But i know you will be able to get medical information
