How do we go about making a will and assigning God-Parents for our children?

My husband and I want to set up a will and have a certain couple from our church be the God-parents for our children. But we don't want it to just be a verbal agreement, we want something official. This way, if anything happens to us, our children will go directly to their god-parents and no one else. Could you give me some advice on this? What kind of things can/should we have in our will? How do we go about making a will and assigning God-Parents for our children?
You don't make people godparents in a will. You appoint them legal guardians of your children in the event of your deaths.

Given your lack of knowledge, your best bet is to make an appointment with a lawyer who has a general practice and who can draw up wills for you both. You dispose of your property through your will.

Make sure the couple you have in mind agrees to do this. Even if you appoint them in your will, they are not obligated to become guardians if they choose not to.How do we go about making a will and assigning God-Parents for our children?
';God parents'; is not a legal term. It's a term used in the church to denote who you want to provide spiritual upbringing to your child if you are not capable of doing it.. The god parents are usually named through baptism of the child.

If you want a particular couple to be named guardians if something happened to you, include that in your will. Contact a lawyer for help with this.
you can request the children be placed with certain people, but your family can fight it and a judge can over rule it if he wishes! God parents are just supposed to make sure the kids get a religious upbringing, not necessarily who the kids go to! Go talk to an attorney to get true info!
This is most difficult. It seems like such a wonderful idea but, it definitely has it's disadvantages. We never know what the future will hold so, it's really hard to plan for it.

We had god-parents for our daughters, who were divorced before they became of age. Thank goodness we are still here.

We have since had a trust set up for them, listing all of our assets. But with the current economical situation, I am not sure how much will be left for them to even consider.

With things as unsettling as they are in this country today, I would bury a safe on my property, write them a letter with the keys, should they ever need it and leave it at that. The more people you involve, the more hands there are in the pie. There is something to be said for ';simplicity';. :D
It depends on the law where you live.

Call a legal hot line.

Everyone has a will, some people just don't know it. If you haven't written a legal will the state you live in has written one for you.

It is a LOT better to write your own and get your stuff to the right people.
There are forms on the internet you can download.
Hire a lawyer to write it that way.
