I have a friend who is going to be a single parent very soon. I'm looking for a book that has a slightly humorous side to it mixed with some sentimentality about being a parent. It's not really about being a *single parent but Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay, and Other Things I Had to Learn As a New Mom by Stefanie Wilder-Taylor is absolutely hilarious. It's very down to earth too!

I read this wonderful book when my son was a baby called ';Operating Instructions, a journal of my son's first year'; by Anne Lamott. This author portrays a very real and touching experience of raising a son as a single mother. Her journal is full of love, humour and tenderness. It is so sincere and honestly written, she does not back away from talking about her frustration or admitting to messing up. Reading that kind of sincerity is so grounding when you are going through the same thing. The most wonderful part is that through it all, the absolute pure and unwaivering love that she has for her child comes through the pages and it's positively inspiring. I found it both enjoyable and helpful.

Bringing Up Boys, by Dr. James Dobson. Yes, he is a Christian and does look at things from a Biblical perspective, but his insights are practical, wise and he has some great anecdotes in there. He draws experience as a psychologist and a father.
Well I don't know of a humorous book but the book at the link below is like my bible lol. She may find it helpful, too.
