How is a baby born with the sickle cell trait when neither parents has it?

Can the paternal grandmother have the trait and the father don't? do it skip generations, if so how likely is the child to develop the disease? How is a baby born with the sickle cell trait when neither parents has it?
Yes, it might skip generations. It could skip so many that a person couldn't remember anyone in their family that had sickle cell. If the person is carrying the trait but isn't suffering from sickle cell, it must be dormant in them. If they make a child with another person carrying the sickle cell trait, then the infant will most likely have sickle cell. How is a baby born with the sickle cell trait when neither parents has it?
both parents are carriers without the disease. genetics : if both parents are carriers, one in 4 children will have the disease, 2 will be carriers and one will not have the disease. if the 2 children have partners that are also carriers (unknown), then, the law of genetics works again, but, sometimes one or more of the kids produced can have the disease, best to have screening done before pregnancy or marriages. It could ';skip'; generations, you can be a carrier, without having the disease. If one of the parents has the disease, a child could also get it.
