What do you think are the qualities that make a good parent?

What do you think makes up a good parent. I asked this question a few weeks ago and one answer said that any mother who loves their child is a good parent. Well, a crack-head, mentally abusive, neglectful mother can still love their child (in their own way) but that doesn't mean they're a good parent. What do you think are the qualities that make a good parent? What do you think are the qualities that make a good parent?
Loving you child

Raising him in the name of the Lord

Believing in the kid

Trusting the kid

Providing for the kid

Being there for him no matter what

Protecting him even if it means risking your lifeWhat do you think are the qualities that make a good parent?
Love, patients, understanding. The ability to adapt and deal with anything that comes at you or your child. The willingness to forgo all your needs and wants and put your child's needs and wants ahead if necessary. Leading by example, holding your children to expectations that are high but not unreachable. Believing in your child's dreams, doing what you can to help them reach the dreams. Realizing that even though you want to cry, you need to laugh because your being watched. Loving without expecting anything back.
Always doing what is best for the child, having the child first in their mind, being able to provide for the child, teaching the child values and manners, giving the child hope for the future, and most of all--something that is hardest for most parents--being able to let go when the child is ready. Giving them wings but also a nest to come back to is very important in my eyes.
a willingness to take care of your child regardless of whatever your situation is, unconditional love, patience...those are a few of some major things I consider important in raising my children.
A good parent is one who provides safety and food and shelter for their child. A great parent goes above and beyond, putting their child's needs first above all others.
