What would happen if you call the police on an physical abusive parent?

I know somebody who's gonna go to the police on his parent for verbal and physical abuse. If he is aching and has bruises will they take him in. Also if the parent threaten to kill him. If they take him into social services won't they ask for another parent which will be available. If their is how will the custody work.

Normally if a young man / woman, goes to the police over abuse claims he / she, would have to take pictures of marks / injuries, and provide an accurate account of what happend and possibly bring a book / diary, with the history of the abuse for the police to act...

This should be enough evidence for the police to arrest the Father / Mother and contact social services to arrange housing for him / her, till the situation has been resolved and / or contact other family members to take care of him / her. What would happen if you call the police on an physical abusive parent?
if both of the parents live in the same house, then it will be hard for the non-abusive parent to get custody. as the court will feel that the non-abusive parent didn't do everything they could to protect their child from the abuse. if the parents don't live together, then the non-abusive parent may have a good chance of getting the child. if not social services will try to place the child with another family member. good luck to your friend!
